I have read some very discouraging blogs about bus travel between Savannakhet and Hue. Is there anyone out there who has personal experience of this trip and give us some info. and advice?

I did this trip by bus in august 07 and it was fine - aircon comfortable bus from the main savannakhet bus station, for about $20. It left about 10am and arrived about 6pm, with a one hour stop at the border.
