How to get from Chang Mei to Laos?

Lao Airlines has two daily flights that operate between Chiang Mai and Luang Prabang, laos. $153 one way, $285 round-trip. I%26#39;ve never taken this route but it%26#39;s probably about a one-hour hour flight.

An alternative is to take the bus from CM to Udon Thani and then a minibus to the Friendship Bridge.

Another alternative is to go from Chiang Mai to the closest border crossing at Chiang Khong (usually via Chiang Rai). From here you can cross into Laos to Houay Xai, and from there go wherever you want. This is a relatively short trip, about half a day.

You can then either fly HouayXai-Vientiane, or bus to Luang Namtha in the north (half day), or Oudomxai (half day)and on to Luang Prabang (another 1/2 day).
