recommendations for guides/sites

A friend and I are going to tour Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia on our own through Sept./Oct. and are looking for top places to go and guides once we get there (hotel recommendations wouldn%26#39;t hurt either). We know we want Angor Wat in Cambodia and have Siem Reip covered but that%26#39;s it. We like active travel like biking but are bewildered by the number of seemingly bad choices for tour companies and guides to choose from.

Any advice, recommendations and warnings are appreciated.

Regards,

Mary

Mary-

Do you have any guidebooks yet? Most of the cities in Laos are so small that the touring can be done on your own, without a guide. It%26#39;s a piece of cake! If you want to take short day excursions, just head into any local travel agent and you can arrange something a day or two in advance. Things booked outside o fhte country tend to be very pricey and you often don%26#39;t knwo what you are getting into. How long will you have in Laos and what places are you considering visiting? Give us more to go on and we can give you more specific information...

Agree with Maneki - book when you are here. I quite like Exotissimo as a tour agent though they are pricey. Maneki has a few other recommendations if you look up her posts.

Thank you so much for replying. We%26#39;re going to spend a month in Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia and if we have time, Myanmar. I was in Cambodia and Myanmar about 5 years ago and found it pretty difficult to get around as most of the towns didn%26#39;t have travel agents back then, but I found my way to some pretty remote areas.

Any recommendations for good in-country travel agents would be great.

Mary

Like I said, Exotissimo. Some people swear by Green Discovery but I have had a couple of sad experiences with them.
