Visa on arrival at Luang Prabang airport and restaurant tips

can anyone advise on the current procedure for getting a visa on arrival at Luang Prabang airport and how long it takes, please ? Will be visiting in a couple of weeks.

Also I%26#39;d appreciate some up-to-date restaurant tips for both LP and Vientiane.

A visa will cost $37 (US %26amp; UK are the same, I think) and will require one passport photo. The time it takes to process depends on how many flights arrive at that time, but it shouldn%26#39;t take more than 30 minutes.

This site http://www.travelfish.org/laos-visas.php

has a lot of good restaurant and accomodation information.

Yes $37.00 and easy to get.

thanks for info and the good link

In LP we recently had an excellent meal at the Blue Lagoon; nice atmosphere, too. The restaurant upstairs on the balcony at Villa Santi was nice as well. Both are more expensive than many other nice places in town, but still quire reasonible.

Rests in LP - L%26#39;Elephant and the Three Nagas are the best by far.

Vientiane. L%26#39;Adresse du Tinay at the Lao Paris hotels. Le Central are high end ones.

La Provencal and La Terasse are my locals

l%26#39;elephant remains my favorite for a splurge on falang food but like Blue Lagoon, prices have gone up considerably compared to just 3 years ago. Still a good deal compared to their equivalent elsewhere.

Thanks to all contributors for the tips. Can%26#39;t wait to get there.

One last request . . .

I%26#39;ve been to KL a few times and can never get %26#39;real%26#39; Malay food other than street food. Nothing against that, but when you%26#39;re on a tight schedule and at my age, the last thing you want to risk is a dose of the trots.

Any tips for LP or V, specifically for good quality Lao food (and you may have covered it without my knowing). I can get french at home :)

thanks again for the input.

The restaurants by the riversides have some of the best grub. Problem is, you have to know what to order as all you%26#39;ll see is the raw materials on display. In Luang Prabang, there are some little places on the riverside with English menus and some of the places in Vientiane will have an English menu. The items on display you will see might include grilled fish, grilled chicken/duck and whathaveyou, so you can just point %26amp; order. An absolute must-try is the ';tamak-hung';(papaya salad).

Try Kua Lao restaurant. They aslo have a dance and music show, which sounds tacky but isn%26#39;t at all. You can bring yo wine for 40,000kip a bottle - save quite a bit.

Kua Lao is in side a beautiful building, and they serve a nice dinner set with a variety of Lao food, usually too much for me to eat! Here%26#39;s a photo of my last meal there
