Laos in 3 nights ?

HI ,

Can anyone help ,

We are going to phnom penh for 3 nights then up to Hanoi for 3 nights then going to malaysian beach tioman Island for 5 days via Singapore. We can not decided whether to drop in to Laos for 3 day inbetween PP and Hanoi . we are looking at Vientaine for 1 night as we need to fly into there from PP anyway but i have heard this is not a great city for sightseeing and that Luang prabang is much better so we would then have 2 nights there before flying straight out to Hanoi.

I really want to see Laos but is it really worth it for 3days , Any advice ? what is there to see in each cityplease

Regards Jo x x

Laos in 3 nights ?

Is it worth it for 3 days? Is any country worth visiting for just 3 days?

Well, you could get a tiny itsy-bitsy sampling of it. Worth it value -wise? Probably not if you consider you will need to shell out $35 or so for visas at the airport.

That said, given your time constraints I would recommend just spending your time in Vientiane. There is plenty to see, it is a charming city and it has some great restaurants. Those who have given it negative reviews haven%26#39;t spent any time there. Cheers!

Laos in 3 nights ?

I do agree with Maneki-neko. Cheer

Agree. Spend 3 nights in Vientiane and don%26#39;t bust your backside running around. Curious as to who told you Vientiane was not worth seeing.

You%26#39;re planning to spend 5 nights on a beach but only 3 days in Laos? Personally, I would do it the other way around - never did understand what%26#39;s so great about lying on a beach.

Thanks for all your advice .

Can anyone give me an idea of what to see%26amp; do in each city (VTE and LP), Say top 3 sights in each , then i can see if its worth us doing both or just one or maybe neither.

kind regards

I take it you haven%26#39;t invested in a guidebook yet. Oh well, you can read up on some stuff here

Have a look at http://www.lonelyplanet.com

Haven%26#39;t been to Vientiane, but my wife and I spent 3 nights in LP between visits to Bali and BKK recently and were delighted we made the detour. Although costly, we loved the people and the solitude. It was like stepping back in time. The highlights of our touring were seeing the morning alms-giving procession, several of the major wats, both the wet and dry markets and a mini side trip up to Kuang Si Falls; but mostly just the general peacefulness of the place. Didn%26#39;t care much for the half-day trip up the river to the Pak Ou caves. If your budget and interest allows, see LP before it%26#39;s spoiled by too many tourists.

Thansk pinapplejim for your comments ,they were very helpful, I am getting the impression Laos is a felt thing as appose to lots of amazing sightseeing , we have booked our 4 day stay for May.

Also thanks to philiplaos for your comments but after working for 6 months if i want to relax on a beach for 5 days i will . And manekineko will be happy i have bought a lonely plant guide book to read now i have definately decided to go to laos .

Um,...it kinda already has been...

What was expensive about it, BTW? If you are referring to the airfare to get there %26amp; back, I concur, but generally speaking, Laos is one of the cheapest countries in Southeast Asia...
