Haze in Vientiane

Hello, can you please tell me how bad is the smoke and hazein vientiane? We are supposed to travel there next week, however my partner has bad asma, and i am wondering if we should reconsider?

Haze in Vientiane

It%26#39;s not a blanket of smoke, but there is a haze and it will continue till the very end of March. If smoke affects your friend that badly, maybe you should reconsider. Or tell him/her to bring his spray.

Its not too bad, though as Maneki says, its more a haze of dust rather than smoke at the moment. We had a strong rainstorm last night and that has really cleared the air. It is very pleasant this morning.

Thank you so much for your replys. Do you know when the burning should stop? we get to Vientiane on the 2nd April and were then planning to spend about 7 days in Vientiane and Luang Prabang, I guess we will still arrive and hope for the best.

Should start to slow down soon. Mind you it will be dusty during most of April as this is the hot season.

I suggest your partner wears sunglasses and as Maneki says, bring an inhaler.

I have just got to Vientiane after a few days in LPB.

LPB was terrible up to three or four days ago, but it seems to be improving pretty fast.

Today it has rained in Vientiane so that should help clear the air a bit.

The far north was total nuclear winter, really depressing.

You can see some pics if you want in my blog

A mentioned above, the perceived '; haze'; in Vientiane is not due to smoke - it is a combination of heat haze and dust from 3-4 months of no rain. Vientiane is still a lot cleaner than Sydney, and many other SE Asian towns - certainly no extra asthma precautions are needed for Vientiane over chiang mai, hanoi etc.

I kind of doubt anyone with asthma answered your posting. Your partner is likely to have problems. My wife certainly did, and her asthma was so light that it hadn%26#39;t even been diagnosed until she came back from Laos in January and told her doctor of all the breathing problems she had. Pakse was the worst from all the burning, but throughout the dry season in much of SE Asia, the air is full of stuff that can be a serious threat to folks%26#39; breathing.

We love SE Asia, have been several times and plan to go several times more, but first we%26#39;ll have to find a protection scheme for her asthma, whether it%26#39;s good masks, medication, etc.
