Vientiane To LP Direct or ?

We are going to travel to travel from Vientiane to LP at the end of this week. We are planning to go by bus and are not sure if we should go direct or is there a way to go via somewhere else of interest. Can you go up one way and back another. We were planning to go on from there to SR in cambodia. Any help would be appreciated.

Dave442, probably the most popular place to stop on the way to LP from VTE is VV (Vang Vieng). Vang Vieng is one of those curious places that seems to polarise.

For some - me included - its a great place to chill out, do some tubing or kayaking; sit in a daybed all day and drink $1 beer Lao if you want. Or hire a motorbike and visit some small villages and enjoy some spectacular karst scenery.

For others its a seething hub of hash-pizza joints with Friends and the Simpsons on a repeating loop.

It%26#39;s quite possible both views are correct. The good news is you can chose to participate in either or both scenarios. It%26#39;s up to you. It%26#39;s only a small town but the ';town'; centre is separate from the ';river life'; by enough of a gap to give the choice.

But I think it%26#39;s worth at least an overnight stop on the way up to LP.

Vang Vieng is the logically place to break up the journey. Over the last couple of years Vang Vieng has got some bad press for its town cente, which to be honest is completely justified. However what most people miss out on is that if you make a slight effort to get off the beaten track, you can have some fanctastic experiences. The scenery is fantastic, the people are great and there is so much to explore.

Just stay away from watching friends and the simpsons and its a great place to visit.
