We are leaving for the river journey from Chiang Khong to Luang Prabang on Friday and have heard that there is flooding and bad weather forecast. Is this true? Thanks

The weather is much better now (nov2008). Yes it was pretty bad for 2 weeks at the eriod you are talking about, some boats from chiang Khrong have been cancelled. Have you been there finally ?
As it was actually not rainning all the time, It was also a nice occasion for incredible pictures of a huge Mekong. Cruising it from Chinag Khrong to Luang Prabang is still one of my favorite thing to do (I make this trip at least 2 times a year as a photographer).
