Advice please on cheap flights from Bangkok to Vientiane etc

Hi,

I%26#39;m planning a trip to Laos early next year and need some help please......

from Bangkok we want to go to Laos (flight preferibly) as We are on a short trip, so time is precious.

We definitely want to go to Vang Vieng and see the capital too, so hopefully we can get a cheap flight to Vientiane? But I%26#39;m having trouble finding a budget Asian airline that fly there.

We will only have a week in Laos as we want to spend some time in Thailand too.

Am I crazy to try and see Laos in just one week? I have been researching it on the net and it seems like a fascinating and intriguing place.

Any help will be very much apreciated

Thanks

I would make sure you get to Luang Prabang - that should be your first choice destination. Went there a year ago and it was amazing. Flew bangkok airways - check their website out. Not dirt cheap but reasonable if you catch one of their offers.

Looking to go back to laos again early next year and looking at flights as well - airasia.com fly from Kuala Lumpur to Vientiane (often for about 拢25 one way). Lao airlines are the only internal operator though (i believe). Can book on their website although i have had a few problems with getting error messages - seems to be ok now though.

Fly to Thailand and then take a budget airline to Udion Thani. From there you can take a mini bus to the Friendship Bridge and cross into Vientiane. If you really want to see Vang Vieng, you can take a bus from Vientiane to Vang Vieng and then continue to Luang Prabang. personally I would give Vang Vieng a miss and fly to Luang Prabang from Vientiane.

Thanks for all your help...

why would you give Vang Vieng a miss? I have heard mixed review of the place...I enjoy the Koh San Road area of Bangkok, I%26#39;ve hear its a bit like that?

thanks

VV has beautiful karst landscapes, but it also has backpackers who like to get smashed. The Lao people don%26#39;t like the place anymore either. If you have a choice between this and Vientiane, Vientiane wins hands down in my opinion.

Depends on what you%26#39;re looking for. If you enjoyed Ko San Road then you%26#39;ll enjoy Vang Vieng - the tubing is fantastic fun! Personally I would fly into Vientiane but I wouldn%26#39;t hang around there - get on a bus to Vang Vieng, then on to Luang Phabang. Air Asia go from Bangkok to Vientiane. We did this and as far as I recall it was reasonably cheap. Realistically in a week you%26#39;re not going to get to se all three places and travelling by bus in Laos takes its toll!

Air Asia go from Bangkok to Vientiane? Is that correct? Not according to their website?

My apologies, you%26#39;re right, they don%26#39;t go from Bangkok to Vientiane, they go from Bangkok to Hanoi. I%26#39;m getting all mixed up!

Nok Air flies from Bangkok to Udon Thani. The cost is between $110 and $150 roundtrip. You can take a bus from the airport to Nong Khai.

Lao airlines flys to VTE if you buy a ticket online its $179, if you buy it cash at BKK you can get it for 4000 baht one way, one way ticket to BKK on Lao air bought at thier office in VTE $130 nok air and asia air both fly to Udon Thani I;ve paid about 1800 baht for the asia air flight one way but I%26#39;ve seen the early morning flight from Udon to BKK for as little as 900 baht, asia air flys from the new airport, nokair flys from Don Maung if you fly to Udon Thani you can get a shared minivan to the border for 150 baht 1hr drive, you buy a ticket inside the terminal at the exit and take the ticket out to the minibus or if you have to get a taxi it will cost 500 baht minimum once you get cross the border a tuk tuk into VTE is about 350 baht, probably about 2hours difference between flying into VTE and flying to Udon Thani, for me its the connection time that makes me go to Udon as lao air flys a couple hours before the asia air flight and I can%26#39;t make that flight, I don%26#39;t mind staying in Udon Thani for a night or 2, Charion sri palace hotel is not bad for $32 a night next door to a shopping mall Callao
