Lao Consulate NYC

Hi all,

Is it possible to get a Lao visa in advance at the Lao consulate in New York City? I would like to try to save some time when we arrive in LP. I tried looking online for the website, but for some reason it is not loading on my computer and directs me to a link for the Laos embassy website in Thailand.

Thanks!

A few weeks ago I would have said this would be a good thing to do. Be aware however, that Laos has recently greatly simplified the methods of obtaining visas, and you now get a visa when your passport is stamped on entry. The time to get the visa has been greatly shortened. You will not save any time by getting it beforehand.

Okay, great, thanks! I was a little worried when I read that immigration lines could be really long. We only have 3 days in LP, and I would like to maximize that as much as possible by being efficent beforehand!!

There are only one Laos consulate in the USA. It is located in Washington D. C. If you get your visa ahead of time you do not have to stand in short or long line. Anyway a line is a line, no line is even better. good luck with your trip

Puttzy it appears you don%26#39;t, (can%26#39;t), read posts. You will wait exactly the same length of time now with or without a visa.

Hope this copy of an earlier posting of mine helps:-

';Just arrived back from Laos so this is as up to date as it gets.

When flying into Vientiane on an International flight the FA%26#39;s will give you two forms - Visa Application and Customs Declaration. To save time complete these before you land.

In the arrival hall you will see the Visa desk to your right, just beyond the large table on which those who didn%26#39;t fill in the forms on the aircraft are scribbling like mad so not to be at the back of the queue.

Join the first queue and present your application form, passport and photos. [Note - the form says 3 photos, we took 2 and were given 1 back ! Also if you have forgot to bring any they will snap you there for a $]

The first thing that you will notice is that you are greeted with a smile - this is Laos!

You are then directed to the second queue where you wait whilst your Visa is processed and are called forward to pay your fee (varies from country to country and is currently $35 for the UK)and collect your passport.

You then go through passport control (another smile)collect your luggage and pass through Customs ,handing in your Declaration Form. More smiles.

Enjoy Laos before it changes - it is like no where else in SE Asia.';
