vietnam, cambodia, laos and thailand

Hi,

Is 6 weeks enough time to see lots of vietnam, laos, thailand and cambodia?? i want to do a mix of historical touristy stuff and lazing by the beach. Also, how much money would you suggest for spending money? This is going to be a budget trip so no 5 star hotels or anything. Any ideas on good itineraries would be great too thanks!

Thanks!

I suggest you ask this question on Travelfish or Thorntree. You will get better responses regarding itineraries.

6 weeks is doable. As far as money is concerned, that is impossible to answer. It depends on what you want to do.

Put Myanmar on your list.

Yeah, you could do that in 6 weeks if you include internal flights to save yourself some time. If you are not extravagant, you could easily get by and be very comfortable on $40 a day including transport, accomodation, food, drinks and sightseeing. Be sure to calculate in expensive stuff beforehand like your visas and departure taxes ($25 to leave a Cambodian airport!) and $ for the pricey Angkor Wat pass (if you are planning on seeing that area).

My partner an I did Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam just recently, and we spent AU$600 a week between us, and didn%26#39;t skimp too much, but used mini hotels at an average of $25 per night.

It was twelve months ago, and we did Thailand for the 11th and last time, and we averaged nearly AU$1000 per week for the same standard of accom and travel.

Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam are way cheaper than Thailand, and in my opinion, Vietnam has the best beaches!

Especially Phu Quoc Island, where an added bonus is you don%26#39;t get hassled by sellers!

We have been visiting Thailand on and off for 20 years, and I am saddened to say, that it has made great changes for the worst in the last 3-4 years.

Just too much ';commercialism'; and greed now.

So much so that we will never ever go back to Thailand.
