Arriving in Laos soon does anyone know the cost of posting a parcel from Laos to Australia?

Not sure about parcels but postcard to Aust are about 8500 kip $1.60Aus) . The main reason I am replying is to let you know that the postal service is not brilliant. In Nov we sent 2 lots of 10 postcards ,one lot about 15/11 and one lot about 20/11 . To our knowledge 2 of the 15/11 have so far been received. If you can make sure that you see them put their stamp onto your parcel.

there is a fedex in Vientiane which is much more reliable than the Lao postal system but more expensive

I have had no problems with Lao post in the 3 years I have lived here. Btw the closest Fed Ex to you is at the Vientiane Post Office.

I find the parcel rates quite expensive if you are thinking of posting things back to Australia - about the same as Australian/US parcel rates. I was quoted US$45 for 5kg a year ago.

The couriers - fedex etc are a lot more though, as you%26#39;d expect - $45 for a 50g letter 5 day delivery.
