Need to know bad visibility is affected?

Thanks

Anyone been to Luang Prabang in March?

Hi - I get to LP just about every month and have never noticed any significant haze in LP itself. In te LP area its more in the mountains, in villages on the road between VangVieng and LP, and between LP and Oudomxay where you notice it.

Visibility is fine in LP year round.

Anyone been to Luang Prabang in March?

What about the area around Nong Kiau: How%26#39;s the visibility there and the route from LP? Thanks!

I was in nong khiaw in december and the air was clear.

I really think the smog effect due to slash %26amp; burn is greatly exaggerated in some guidebooks etc - it is mainly noticeable in the north during the coldest few months when you can get a temperature inversion in the valleys.

Otherwise its fairly localised and generally happening a long way from the road, as areas within a few km of the road were cleared years ago.

Thanks bluecramp.. So u say Luang Prabang is ok in Mid March.. Are the skyies clear?

yes - skies are clear in LP town year round except when its raining - no rain in mid march. (Maybe a bit of general heat haze but no smog)

Just returned from LP in March. We came down Mekong and the slash and burn was in full blaze, sometimes whole hill sides alight. The whole river was covered in smoky haze. In LP it was still bad. Sun hardly broke through. Smog covered all so u could hardly see other side of river bank. certainly not nice sitting by pool. This covers region March and April....not the time to go!

Thats a shame Lodo - I%26#39;ve been in LP the last 4 years in Feb - March - April and havent seen it like you described in or near the town itself. Must be a bad year..
