Two questions and grateful for advice. One, is there an ATM at the airport in Vientiane? Secondly I%26#39;ve been looking at hotels , (travelling mid Feb) the Lao Orchard looks good but no pool. Can anyone recommend a really nice (not large western type) hotel with pool as am anticipating it being quite hot.

Yes ATMs at airport.
Would suggest Villa Manoly, which is a restored french villa with a small pool. It has nice large rooms and is very pleasant.
Other hotels with pools will be expensive, eg Novotel, Laos Plaza etc etc. Lan Xang Hotel has a pool but is pretty run down these days.
